Description

These apple cider donut holes are fluffy, moist, and coated in cinnamon sugar. Perfect for a cozy fall breakfast or dessert.

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup apple cider (reduced to 1/4 cup)

2 cups all-purpose flour

2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp nutmeg

1/2 tsp salt

2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/4 cup brown sugar

1 egg

1/2 cup buttermilk

1 tsp vanilla extract

Cinnamon sugar, for coating

Vegetable oil, for frying

Instructions

1. Simmer apple cider over medium heat until reduced to 1/4 cup. Let cool.

2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

3. In another bowl, whisk melted butter, granulated sugar, brown sugar, egg, buttermilk, vanilla, and reduced cider.

4. Combine wet and dry ingredients just until mixed.

5. Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F.

6. Drop spoonfuls of batter into the hot oil, cooking about 2 minutes per side or until golden brown.

7. Remove with a slotted spoon and drain on paper towels.

8. Toss warm donut holes in cinnamon sugar until fully coated.

Notes

For a baked version, use a mini muffin pan and bake at 350°F for 10–12 minutes.

Reducing the cider intensifies the apple flavor, so don’t skip this step!
